Today we did a survey and made a bar graph about the best smartie colour. We also surveyed the class to determine if frogs or elephants were more popular animals. We learned that if we ask the same person more than once then our results will not be accurate.
We are at the mid-point in our data management unit, and so we decided that we should reflect on our learning thus far.
Here are some of the things we have learned so far:
"If people say they like something a lot, you can't count them more than once." - T.M.
"You just counted a lot of people and you asked them again and again. You can only ask someone once." - D.N.
"You can't ask two people and ask the same person all over again. Not everyone will have a turn." - M.D.
"You can't keep asking people over and over, and if you ask them if they like frogs or elephant more, you can't write more than tally mark." - A.K.
"Don't ask someone too many times because you will get the wrong answer and that is bad. The answer won't be accurate." - C.M.
"If you keep on asking someone again, everyone will get bored and will not get to have a turn to share their ideas. Some kinds of graphs are called bar graphs." - A.V.
"I know you can colour in a pictograph." - B.I.
"There are concrete graphs and pictographs." - L.E.
"We can show animals on a graph." - V.S.
"I did a survey for when we wanted to know who likes what in the classroom." - R.B.
