RHPS is having a pumpkin carving contest! We have been so excited to carve our pumpkin all week. For the contest, each class needed to show someone who makes a difference. This could be a real world example or a fictional character.
Our class thought of four choices:
1. Rick Hansen
2. Terry Fox
3. Noni from Noni Says No
4. Sophy from Running Shoes
We decided to vote on the choices to see which idea would work best for us. We knew another class had chosen Rick Hansen, so we went with our second choice: Sophy.
To brainstorm ideas for decorating the pumpkin (the back was very mushy so we decided to decorate the pumpkin instead of carving it) we had a knowledge building circle. We decided to paint the pumpkin like a landscape (this was like what we learned about in art last week - landscapes and horizon lines!) and put a picture of Sophy running in front.
Everyone helped to paint the pumpkin and to think of ideas for the shared writing piece about how Sophy helped us to think about making a difference in the world.
Here is our finished pumpkin! We hope you love it!
The voting happens later today. We can't wait to see the other pumpkins!
