Poetry Homework

Each weekend you will notice that your child takes their poetry folder home to share with their families! Each week we study a new poem and discuss new vocabulary, learn new reading comprehension strategies, look at decoding strategies, build reading fluency, etc. These yellow folders are filled with great poems and songs to share with parents and siblings over the weekend.

You will also notice that there is usually a follow up activity on the back of the newest poem. These are great ways to extend your child's thinking about something we have learned at school (e.g., reading comprehension, grammar, etc.).

This week we have an extra fun activity! Students have loved singing the song Hibernation (and using some of the information in the lyrics to help us during our science lessons) and are excited to create our own song titled Migration!

Today, as a class, we thought of the first verse (see below). What other animals migrate? Where do they go?

CHORUS:
Animals are not around,
Not around, not around.
Animals are not around,
They are migrating.

In the winter, where's the goose?
Flying south, it's on the loose!
On vacation, drinking juice,
It is migrating!
