Our weekly poem is about Remembrance Day. Everyone has enjoyed making connections to the poem, reflecting on our presentation from Ms. Lacroix, and building new understandings about this important day of the year.
Here is the poem:
Poppy
Poppy we are but children small.
We are too little to do it all.
Children you may do your part.
Love each other is how you start.
Play without fighting,
Share your games and toys.
Be kind and thoughtful,
To all girls and boys.
We enjoyed reading the poem in a somber and serious voice that reflects the mood of the poem. We talked about the vocabulary, such as the word 'thoughtful', and brainstormed ways for students in our class to show thoughtfulness. We also discussed the first line and how we think the small poppy symbolizes how children are small too (great thinking C.S. and A.K.!). Everyone is looking forward to analyzing the poem to determine the message and main idea tomorrow.
The poem also inspired us to create some beautiful works of art to decorate the gym for our Remembrance Day assembly on Friday!
I love the poppy art Mrs. Howard! It sounds like your students made wonderful connections to the poem they were reading in class.
ReplyDeleteAmazing! I see you are a fan of That Artist Woman too!
