A visit from the Ramp Man

The 'Ramp Man' visited our school today! Luke told us all about his inspirational story. When he was 24, he and a friend were mountain biking. Luke fell off of his bike and injured his spine. He was paralyzed from the neck down. After surgery and rehabilitation, he had limited strength and control over his arms and hands and was not able to use his legs. Today we learned a lot about how different (and difficult) life can be for people with disabilities. Luke also showed us some demonstrations to help us understand what a day in his life might be like. K.B. did an excellent job helping a student from Ms. Leung's class brush her teeth! The best part for us was learning about how anyone can make a difference! Luke has worked hard to create the "Stop Gap" program.

To learn more about his story, check out this site:

At home, try talking about the many difference ways that people make a difference in the lives of others. Remember that we are all difference makers!
